Like most Etsy shop beinngers I was trying to be cheeky with my product names when I first started. I thought I just posted my products to Etsy and traffic comes. But Esty titles and tags have a formula to get more traffic and it took me so long to figure out the 3 things that really matter for Etsy titles.
The best way to download tags is to use Etsy apps that specialize in this.
This post will share how I got a client’s product to show up on page one for their keywords.
Did I mention this was their first product?
Let’s get started.
Etsy Titles And Tags: How To Get Products On The Front Page Of Etsy
There are three things that matter with naming Etsy products.
- Keyword search volume
- Target keyword in product title
- Reviews
Pin the image below as a reference for later.
Keyword volume is how often a phrase is searched for on Etsy. If there isn’t any keyword volume, no one is searching for what you named your product.
Target keywords are what people will search for to find your product. The title tells Etsy what your product is.
Reviews help your products show up on the front page. This has to do with Etsy’s algorithm and will be explained more later.
With these three things you can get your products to rank on the front page for keywords that matter. Descriptions do not matter and tags don’t matter. People argue about this with me all the time, but some my best selling products had less than 100 words in the description.
How To Choose Keywords For Your Etsy Products
Keywords are what we use to search for products.
So for our Etsy shop, we have to think about how people search for us.
This is called keyword research.
For this example I’m going to use a product from a shop who I did keyword research for. My research helped them get their first sales in a competitive niche on Etsy, graphic shirts.
For this post we are going to use the product below.
So, how would you search for this project?
I started searching queries like “pinky promise shirt” and “pinky swear tshirt”.
Then I checked the search volume of these keywords phrase.
“Pinky promise shirt” had more search volume, so I saved that in a spreadsheet for later.
I then did some more research and found that “graphic tees vintage” was a keyword that would fit this shirt and it had a very high search volume. I also added that to my spreadsheet.
I then created this product for my client and put those keywords at the beginning of the listing.
This is a simple process, but it is so important to get right. Otherwise you won’t get traffic.
Do Etsy Reviews Effect Etsy SEO
Yes. Absolutely yes.
Etsy looks at reviews as a vote of confidence in your shop. These “votes” are important because Etsy goal is to sell more products and they will if they connect people looking for products with the most trusted sellers.
Without reviews, your shop will no show up on page one and you won’t get traffic because very few people go past page one while searching.
To show how powerful reviews are, let’s look at this same client. They weren’t ranking for weren’t ranking for the competitive keyword “graphic tees vintage” until I helped them get their first review.
And now the same pinky promise shirt is on the front page. At the time of this article they only have one product in their shop as well.
Conclusion
Etsy SEO is important because it get’s you traffic. And if you name your products right Etsy will start to pay for ads of your products on Google.
